The article in the Law Society Gazette:

A 263-year-old south-west law firm has stepped into the internet age by launching a new online legal service in preparation for competition from new entrants to the market.

Devon and Cornwall firm Coodes, established in 1747, has set up Coodes Direct offering fixed-price legal advice, plus a DIY Law Online service enabling clients to create their own legal documents.

A range of services, from conveyancing to employment and divorce, is available via a shopping cart system to buy online, and a range of fixed-price packages will enable customers to budget for their legal advice and start procedures online.

Managing partner Ian Taylor said: ‘Offering online legal products and fixed-price fees is a new way of thinking for a regional firm such as Coodes.

‘However, we believe strongly that this is the future of law – it enables us to be upfront and transparent about costs.’
