Cornwall celebrates the opening of more Academies!

Wed 13th Apr 2011

A new era is about to begin for some local Cornish schools as they open their doors this month as Academies.

These schools include:

Bodriggy Primary, Callington Community College, Camborne Science and Community College, Mount Hawke, Newquay Tretherras, Penair, Penrice Community College, Pool Business, Enterprise College and saltash.net Community School, The Roseland Community College and Trevithick Primary School.

Academies are publicly funded independent schools, free from local authority and national government control. Other freedoms include setting their own pay and conditions for staff, freedoms concerning the delivery of the curriculum, and the ability to change the length of their terms and school days.

More and more schools are applying for Academy status. The Department of Education has recently published a list of the latest applications it has received from schools. These include some of our local schools here in Cornwall:

Falmouth School, St Robert Geffery’s Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School, St Agnes School, St Columb Major Community Primary School, St Columb Minor School and Trewirgie Infant School

If your school would like further information on Academy conversion and if you would like a free initial consultation, please contact our Academies Team on 01872 246200 or email our team co-ordinator kirsty.Davey@coodes.co.uk.
