A solicitor from St Austell who has carved out a specialism in supporting Cornish schools in converting to academy status has won a regional industry award.
Kirsty McAuley, based at Coodes Solicitors’ Truro office, was presented with the Junior Lawyer of the Year title at the Cornwall Law Society Awards on Friday (February 24).
Coodes also brought home the award for Best Law Firm in a ceremony held at Hotel Bristol in Newquay.
Kirsty, aged 27, who lives in Roche and went to Poltair School, was recognised for her work with a number of schools that have gone through the complex legal process of becoming an academy.
The transition means that dozens of new academies in Cornwall can work with greater independence from the local authority and more control over how they run.
Coodes’ win in the Best Law Firm category was in recognition of the work the firm has been doing in maintaining its commitment to the local community whilst also offering innovative products and services for a changing market.
This includes the launch of dedicated website www.coodesdirect.co.uk which offers online and fixed price legal products such as wills and even divorces. Coodes has also introduced “how to” online videos and created its own You Tube channel.
