It is with great pleasure that Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly welcomes Louise Southwell as the newly appointed Chair of Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly’s Board of Trustees.
Having been a Trustee on the Board for the last 6 years, Louise was nominated as Chair on 7th March 2014.
A partner and solicitor at the local law firm, Coodes Solicitors, Louise qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and works in the private client department, specialising as a Solicitor for the elderly.
Louise is a Co-Chair of the Penwith Dementia Action Alliance. She is also a Secretary and supporter of the 50+ Forum Penwith. She has trained as a ‘Dementia Champion’ – providing training on the government initiative of making our communities dementia friendly.
Louise says, “My experience is that elderly people are often overlooked in our community. Too often they are viewed as problems, not members of society who share our hopes and fears. They need the voice which Age UK provides, championing their issues.”
“Age UK’s vision of improving the quality of life for older people is one I share both in my personal and professional life. I’m particularly proud to be associated with their projects, such as The Newquay Pathfinder, where their ‘whole person approach’ has made a real difference to the quality of life for countless older people. I’m also looking forward to supporting The Penwith Pioneer, which recently launched in West Cornwall, enhancing even more lives of the older people in our local community.”
