Mark Bailey is celebrating after qualifying as a solicitor. The newest member of Coodes Solictors’ Commercial Property team, Mark joined the South West law firm in 2010 as an office junior and receptionist.
Having completed work experience in Coodes’ Holsworthy office, Mark Bailey joined the firm after finishing his A levels. Coodes encouraged Mark to study for legal qualifications while he was working. Mark began advising clients on buying and selling properties in the local area, initially qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive.
Recognising Mark’s potential, Coodes gave him study leave to complete a law degree at De Montfort University, travelling up to Leicester around five times a year while continuing to work in Holsworthy. He then took a year off to complete his Legal Practice Course at the University of the West of England, passing with Distinction.
Mark has now returned to Coodes Solicitors to work with the Commercial Property team in the firm’s Truro office, supporting businesses across the region to buy and sell properties. Mark is now aiming to achieve a Masters degree in Law.
Mark said: “It was always the plan to qualify as a solicitor but it was a challenge to juggle my studies around a busy caseload.
“I couldn’t possibly have achieved my ambitions without the support of Coodes. I am very grateful to everyone here who has helped me along the way. My plan now is to work hard and perfect my trade. I am working with a great commercial property team where each solicitor has their own expertise.”
Coodes Solicitors Partner and Rural Services Team Leader Pam Johns recruited Mark as an office junior in 2010. She said: “It was obvious from very early on that Mark had a real interest in the law and particularly in property and agriculture. I think clients like the fact he has worked his way up and that he understands their needs, because of his own farming background.
“I am thrilled for him. I had no doubt that he would do it but I am very proud to see him qualify.”
The Commercial Property team helps businesses buy and sell properties across Cornwall and Devon. With particular expertise in agriculture, the firm also advises on issues such as development land, commercial tenancies and planning.
Coodes Solicitors Partner and Head of Commercial Property Paula Dunkley said: “Congratulations to Mark. The Commercial Property team is going from strength to strength and we are delighted to have him as our newest member. Coodes has a great track record of spotting potential and nurturing talent within the firm. Mark’s journey is a great example of how we support people early in their careers.”
