Lawyers at the South West’s longest established law firm Coodes have been ‘highly ranked’ in the latest edition of the prestigious national legal directory Chambers & Partners published today (20 October 2022).
The 2023 guide, which highlights the UK’s top solicitors, praises Coodes’ Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Clinical Negligence teams and recommends the firm for its legal expertise and high levels of client care.
Coodes, which has a network of offices across Cornwall and Devon and celebrates its 275th anniversary this year, has been picked out in two practice areas and three lawyers at the firm have been listed in one the world’s most respected guides.
Based on detailed written submissions, interviews and in-depth independent research, Chambers & Partners’ takes into account law firms’ technical legal abilities, professional conduct, client service excellence, commercial astuteness, diligence, and commitment to clients.
The Clinical Negligence team is described as “very professional and friendly” with one interviewee quoted as saying: “Each individual in the team at Coodes was great in their role.”
Clinical Negligence Partner Julie Hatton has been selected for the first time for her work. She was described as: “Very professional and also very approachable.”
Partner and Head of Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Rachel Pearce has also achieved an individual ranking for the third consecutive year.
Rachel has over 16 years’ experience in dealing with particularly complex and challenging clinical negligence cases including birth injuries, surgical errors, misdiagnosis, substandard midwifery and nursing care and fatal claims.
She is accredited under the Law Society Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme and is a Senior Litigator and Accredited Clinical Negligence specialist with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. She is also a member of the charity INQUEST, providing legal representation to bereaved families.
Chambers 2023 said: “She is very helpful, easy to approach and supportive. Rachel is also a lovely person to work with, very professional.”
Rachel Pearce, Partner and Head of Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that we have maintained the team’s position, as well as my profile in Chambers & Partners. Not only that, but this year is really special because Julie Hatton has also been deservedly recognised for the first time – this accolade is testament to all the hard work and dedication that she has put into expertly advising and supporting our clients.”
About Coodes’ Rural Services team, Chambers said: “They were excellent, were prepared to listen, and suggested ideas that would work in our favour.”
Partner and Rural Services Team Leader Pam Johns has been singled out in the guide for the second year in a row. It said: “Pam Johns has a strong reputation amongst clients and professionals.”
Another said: “Pam has a great deal of knowledge, particularly local, and isn’t afraid to ask the questions which need to be asked.”
With over 40 years’ experience, Pam, who set up Coodes’ Holsworthy office in 1998 is a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association. She specialises in advising farmers and landowners across the South West on buying and selling farm businesses, setting up Community Land Trusts, farm tenancies, disputes, diversification, trusts and tax, partnerships, and environmental issues.
Partner and Rural Services Team Leader, Pam Johns said: “To be recognised in Chambers & Partners in this way is a real endorsement of all the hard work that our team put into delivering the highest quality legal advice for our clients. We’re approachable and accessible and have years of experience within the team and what makes it all the more rewarding is that the recommendations come from them, as well as our respected peers and other professionals that we work with. Invariably you’re all working towards the same successful end goal and it’s heartening to read such positive feedback about the specialist agricultural team at Coodes.”
The news follows just weeks after it was announced that Coodes was again recommended by the UK’s other leading legal directory, the Legal 500.
Peter Lamble, Partner and Chairman of Coodes, said: “Today’s announcement is another fantastic achievement for the whole team at Coodes. We work hard to continue providing the highest levels of service for our clients and that hard work shines through in the glowing references that we have received in this prestigious legal publication. It’s a wonderful reflection on our team and we’re delighted to have been recognised again.”
