Over £20,000 has been raised for charity Cornwall Hospice Care in the past two years by Coodes Solicitors.
We are committed to supporting the communities in which our team live and work. Every two years Coodes choose a local charity to support, and Cornwall Hospice Care was nominated to be the firm’s charity for the period July 2022 to July 2024.
Cornwall Hospice Care’s vision is for all people living with terminal illness in Cornwall to be able to access the care and support they may need at the time and in the place that is right for them and their families. The charity has two hospices in Cornwall – Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell and St Julia’s in Hayle. It also has 26 shops and donations centres around the county, as well as offering a range of community services including access to therapists and neighbour hubs providing advice, support and information for terminally ill people, their families and carers.
A designated charities team at Coodes, from support staff to partners within the firm, have been involved in fundraising efforts. Activities have included ‘dress down’ days, regular cake sales, a rounders tournament and a quiz night. Highlights of the fundraising efforts include six colleagues skydiving in Perranporth last October and a trek of Snowdon. In total, a huge £20,830 was raised from these endeavours which equates to around 860 hours of care for those in need.
Team members have also been lending their support to the charity through other means, with some volunteering at the charities warehouse, helping to sort donations.
Emily Stark, Solicitor and charity lead at Coodes said: “Cornwall Hospice Care is an incredible local charity which fulfils such an essential role in helping people at a very difficult period of their lives.
“We’ve had a fantastic year, raising money through cake sales and some of us even jumped out of a plane! A huge thanks to the firm, colleagues and the wider public for helping us to raise such a significant amount in support of Cornwall Hospice Care and the vital work they do within our local community.”
Coodes has a dedicated team who specialise in meeting the needs of individuals, their families and carers. They provide expert advice and a full range of services relating to legal matters and other issues to clients including those who may themselves be receiving support or services from Cornwall Hospice Care. Several of their lawyers are members of Solicitors for the Elderly and the Association of Lifetime Lawyers and can provide assistance with lifetime planning, later life matters and issues that affect older people.
Jane Appleton, Events and Community Manager at Cornwall Hospice Care, said: “It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside the team at Coodes for the past two years. They’ve put so much in to raising an incredible amount of money to support Cornwall Hospice Care, from cake sales and collecting tins to sky diving and trekking Snowdon! I can’t overstate the importance of liaising with companies like Coodes as we are almost entirely funded by the community of Cornwall. This support will ensure we can continue to provide hospice care at Mount Edgcumbe and St Julia’s as well as bereavement support through our community services.”
