Background

Grievances

Workplaces are complex environments and it’s not unusual for difficulties to arise between staff and their employers, or between staff and their colleagues. If not managed carefully and according to readily accessible policies, these issues can quickly escalate, causing distress to the individuals, disruption to the business and potentially, reputational damage to both. If you have a grievance that has not been adequately addressed by your employer, we can help.

Our experienced team of specialist employment lawyers support staff members through a wide range of grievance procedures. We will ensure that you understand your legal position and your rights, and the options you have to resolve the matter or, where appropriate, take it further.

Whatever the grievance, employment disputes can be both confusing and distressing and a speedy and legally compliant resolution is always desirable where possible. We will provide expert advice from the outset and help to take some of the stress out of the situation so that you can focus on the best course of action.

In most cases, the first requirement is to follow your employer’s grievance procedure. This should be easily accessible, either through the employer’s human resources (personnel) team or management. However, there may be circumstances where you find it difficult or challenging to access the procedure, for example if your grievance is against a member of one of these teams. We can assist with the best course of action if this is the case.

We can:

  • Advise you of your rights when relationships and situations at work need resolving.
  • Assist you in putting the formal grievance process in place.
  • Support you in any subsequent action if the matter is not readily resolved.
