Background

Sporting Injury Claims

If you or a loved one has suffered a sporting injury as a result of someone’s negligence or carelessness, then you could be entitled to compensation for your injury and its consequences, including any loss of earnings you have suffered as a result.

While many sports and physical pursuits involve a degree of risk, organisers, match officials and judges, members of staff at venues and facilities have a duty of care for participants and spectators. If you are injured as a result of negligence or failure to deliver this duty of care, then you may be able to claim compensation.

Our team of specialist personal injury solicitors has been winning sporting injury claims and supporting clients across the South West for more than 40 years. We can help you secure the justice and the compensation you deserve, providing expert, jargon-free legal advice that will help you achieve the best possible outcome. We advise on injuries suffered during a wide range of sports and activities, including:

  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Cricket
  • Rugby
  • Horse riding
  • Motor sports
  • Winter sports including skiing, snowboarding and ice-skating
  • Water sports including sailing, water-skiing, canoeing, jet-skiing, windsurfing, kite-boarding and surfing
  • Climbing, abseiling and mountaineering
  • Sky diving, parachuting, hang-gliding and paragliding
  • Scuba-diving

Sporting injuries can be caused by a wide range of factors, including:

  • Faulty gym equipment
  • Inadequate or faulty safety equipment or protective clothing
  • Inadequate safety supervision
  • Damaged or unplayable pitches/courts
  • Poorly maintained venues or facilities
  • Dangerous or reckless behaviour by other participants
  • Poor or unqualified coaching
  • Assault by a spectator or participant(s)

Our experienced personal injury solicitors are Law Society Panel Accredited and/or APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) accredited specialists, and the team ranks highly in the Legal 500 directory for personal injury work.

Our team also features Cornwall’s only Law Society-accredited personal injury solicitor. We also have strong relationships with leading medical professionals and experts, enabling us to give you the very best advice, delivered with sensitivity by specialist personal injury lawyers. We can help you with any kind of sporting injury claim.

We understand that starting a legal claim for a sporting injury can be confusing and unsettling – especially where it involves identifying an individual or individuals with whom you have played a sport or activity. We’re here to explain your rights and options and to handle every aspect of the claim process so that you can focus on recovering and getting your life back on track. We will help you secure the resources you need, whether that means medical treatment, financial compensation, or both.

We provide a comprehensive sporting injury claims service, including operating on a no win, no fee basis.

Sporting injuries affect people and their loved ones in different ways. Our sporting injury solicitors understand that no two injuries are the same, so we make sure that you are thoroughly assessed by a medical professional to ensure you get the best possible support.

As well as providing sensitive advice and support, our sporting injury experts can put you in touch with a number of organisations that can help you with everything from rehabilitation and mobility assistance and home modification to counselling and support for your family.

No win, no fee

Most of the sporting injury claims we support are handled on a no win, no fee basis, which means:

  • If you win your case your opponent will pay the majority of your legal costs. Any legal costs not paid by your opponent and the lawyer’s success fee will be deducted from the compensation that you receive.
  • If you lose your case, you will not have to pay any legal costs unless we advise you otherwise.

How long do I have to make a sporting injury claim?

You usually have up to three years from the date of the accident or knowing about your injury to start a sporting injury claim. There are some exceptions and we will advise you about these when we speak. We recommend that you contact us as soon as possible, so our personal injury lawyers can explain the process of claiming compensation, start your claim and help you access any other support and/or rehabilitation you need.

How much compensation could I receive?

Every sporting injury is different and so is its impact on you or your loved one. That’s why it is important to get expert advice from qualified specialist lawyers who really understand the unique nature of each personal injury claim and who are experienced in working with medical professionals to truly understand the impact of your injuries and how these may affect you in the long term.

The amount you can claim will depend on a number of factors, including the severity of your injury, any financial losses you have suffered or will suffer in the future, and any changes to your lifestyle that you have to make as a result of your injuries. Whatever the injury, our specialist personal injury lawyers will ensure that you get the compensation and support you are entitled to.
