Cornwall and Devon’s small and medium sized businesses can now benefit from a more flexible and affordable way of navigating increasingly complex employment laws. With its commercial work having grown by nearly a quarter over the last year, Coodes Solicitors aims to attract more of the region’s small businesses through two new schemes.
Designed for businesses with under 10 employees, ‘Coodes’ HR for Small Business’ offers advice on employment issues, such as recruitment, pay and flexible working to firms with up to 10 employees. Subscribing to the service gives firms access to one of Coodes’ dedicated employment solicitors for between £15 and £20 a month.
For businesses that want more occasional advice and support, ‘Coodes’ HR Pay As You Go’ scheme offers one-off 20-minute consultations with a specialist employment lawyer for just £25.
Both services include a subscription to Coodes’ quarterly e-newsletter, to help businesses stay up-to-date with changes in legislation, as well as discounted invitations to employment law seminars and workshops.
The new schemes come off the back of Coodes’ former Managing Partner Jeremy Harvey stepping into a new role to lead and develop the firm’s employment law practice. Having grown up in Devon and lived in South East Cornwall for 30 years, Jeremy brings 13 years’ experience of running a business, including overseeing the firm’s own HR department.
Jeremy says: “Coodes’ commercial team is growing at an impressive rate and our work with business clients – ranging from international companies to local family firms – has increased by nearly 25 per cent in the last year.
“With recent changes to parental leave and a call for an end to zero hours contracts, all businesses face the challenge of meeting fast-changing legislation. Through these two new services, we are now able to provide the region’s small businesses with a more affordable and flexible way of ensuring they comply with employment law.
“Our employment team is focused not only on providing a service when things go wrong but promoting good HR practice. Our combined experience and local knowledge means we can help businesses make a connection between what the law says should happen and how it needs to operate in everyday situations in the workplace.”
