An award-winning firm of South West lawyers is bucking the property market trend as it expands its team.
Coodes Solicitors, which has seven offices in Cornwall and Devon, has reported a 15 percent increase in its residential conveyancing business.
The increase contrasts with national figures that highlight a three percent decrease in house sales from February 2012 to February 2013.
As a result of its success Coodes has expanded its team by recruiting legal executive, Maria Richards.
Maria, who has previously worked for Cornwall College and Stephens Scown, will be based in the firm’s St Austell office.
Coodes’ head of residential property, Alistair Whyte, said: “The residential team and support staff work incredibly hard to ensure our clients have the high level of service they deserve, which is why people are choosing to do business with us.
As a result of the team’s success we’ve been able to welcome Maria, who will be able to help us to continue to move in the right direction.”
Maria Richards, who lives in St Austell, said:
“I wanted to join Coodes as it has a great reputation for residential conveyancing.
The staff are friendly and work hard for both individuals and businesses in the local community.
I enjoy conveyancing work as I can help make what can be a stressful time less worrying for clients by making the transaction go smoothly.
It’s particularly satisfying when excited first time buyers collect the keys to their first home.”
According to figures from the Land Registry the number of completed house sales in England and Wales during February 2013 decreased by three per cent to 43,573 compared with 44,829 in February 2012.
Coodes won the national Excellence in Conveyancing Award at the Law Society’s Excellence Awards 2012.
The awards also highlighted innovative business practices, successful approaches to practice management as well as contributions through social responsibility and equality and diversity initiatives.
Coodes was one of the first firms in the South West to achieve the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Standard scheme, and it was Coodes’ work in championing this new standard which led to the award win.
