Coodes conveyancers stride out to join the fight against cancer

Fri 15th Feb 2019

Property lawyers from across Cornwall and Devon will be taking to the pavements and footpaths to join the fight against cancer on 26th February. The team from Coodes Solicitors will spend their lunchtime taking part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Under the banner of ‘Conveyancers against Cancer’, the event will raise money for The Cove Macmillan Support Centre in Truro. Cornwall’s only dedicated cancer information and support centre, the purpose-built facility opened in November 2016 and has already welcomed 27,700 local cancer patients, families and carers through its doors.

Around 50 members of Coodes’ multi-award-winning conveyancing team, based in offices from Penzance to Holsworthy, will be participating in the one-mile sponsored walk. The team, which specialises in helping people buy and sell their homes, has chosen to fundraise for Macmillan to further the firm’s ongoing support for the charity.

Jo Morgan of Coodes Solicitors Residential Property team said: “The idea behind Conveyancers against Cancer was to set up a fundraising activity that we could all take part in. With offices right across Cornwall and into Devon, we are fortunate to be able to walk in some of the South West’s most beautiful countryside. We are each walking a mile, so between us we will be covering around 50 miles and we hope local people will want to support us in our fundraising.

“Sadly, each and every one of us has been affected by cancer in some way. Unfortunately, some of our own team members have been through treatment themselves in recent months and this has had a really big impact on everyone here. Macmillan Cancer Support is a fantastic charity that offers really practical help to cancer patients and their families. This is our small way of showing them our gratitude and support.”

Over the last two years, Coodes Solicitors has taken part in a number of fundraising activities for Macmillan Cancer Support. This has included running several Macmillan coffee mornings, across its offices, and raising £1,500 through the Great Coodes Christmas Cake Off at the Macmillan Christmas Fair.

Emma Wright, Senior Fundraising Manager for Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Being told ‘you have cancer’ can affect so much more than your health – it can affect your family, your job, even your ability to pay the bills. But life with cancer is still life.

“We want to help everyone with cancer find their best way through, from the moment of diagnosis, so they’re able to live life as fully as they can. Coodes’ support will enable us to help even more people affected by cancer locally, and we wish them luck with this brilliant challenge!”
