South West law firm Coodes Solicitors’ award-winning conveyancing team is now under new leadership with several new appointments being made. Partner Sarah Cowley has been re-appointed Head of Residential Property, supported by Residential Property Assistant Manager, Partner Kate Bayley.

Sarah Cowley has returned to Coodes to lead the department through its next phase of growth. With 35 years’ conveyancing experience, Sarah has worked in the property sector in Cornwall since 2013 and was made a Partner of Coodes in 2016. She previously led the team to win six national awards, including best conveyancing firm in Cornwall and Devon, at The ESTAS, the biggest awards scheme in the UK residential property industry.

Sarah, working closely with Partner and Head of Commercial Property Jo Morgan, will ensure the Residential Property team meets the demands of a continued strong market, by placing particular emphasis on staff development, knowledge, and customer service.

Based in Holsworthy, Kate Bayley has been promoted to Partner, having qualified with Coodes after joining the firm in 2003. Kate, who has 18 years conveyancing experience, deals with a range of complex property matters and has built a strong client network over the years based on a track record of high service standards

Joining the management team Kate said: “I am grateful for this fantastic opportunity to manage and work with a talented team of lawyers and support staff. I am particularly excited to develop and grow the team while expanding our expertise, with a particular focus on specialisms such as New Build and Equity Release. Of course, I would like to add to the trophy cabinet and bring home more Conveyancing awards to Cornwall. I have recently been involved in recruiting three new lawyers who are great assets to the team and will help us to achieve our future goals.”

Based in Newquay, Solicitor Heidi Start specialises in property sales and purchases for people in later life, including unlocking equity and assisting with the transfer of assets. Kerry Hodgson brings more than 20 years’ conveyancing experience and specialist expertise in new build properties to the team in Launceston. Solicitor Kerry Tresidder has joined the Falmouth office, having worked in conveyancing for a decade.

Partner and Head of Residential Property Sarah Cowley said: “I am proud to once again be leading such a brilliant team of conveyancers at Coodes Solicitors.

“As anyone who works in the property sector knows, the last two years have been extremely challenging because of the impact of the pandemic and the introduction of the Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) holiday. Here in Cornwall and Devon, we have faced additional pressures because of a surge in interest in South West properties. These have been tough times, but the team has worked hard throughout to support people buying and selling their homes.

“While the market is now stabilising, demand continues to be high. That is why we have continued to invest in our staff and will look to further growth to ensure we have a formidable team of conveyancers to support our clients. More specifically, we have embarked on a programme of internal training to elevate knowledge and sector understanding across the board.

“We are extremely fortunate to have such a fantastic department, with a wealth of experience and a depth and breadth of property expertise. We also have a long, proud history in Cornwall and Devon, great local knowledge, and network of contacts in the property sector. This means we are well positioned to offer the absolute best service to all our clients as we enter the next chapter.”

With a network of offices, from Holsworthy in the east to Penzance in the west, Coodes Solicitors has been helping people buy and sell properties across the South West since 1747. The conveyancing team also offers a range of specialist services, including acting for first time buyers and advising on buy to let purchases, and equity release mortgages.
