The new President of Cornwall Law Society has spoken of her ambition to attract more of the county’s young legal professionals to join the 125-year-old association. Lucy Theobald, a family lawyer with Coodes Solicitors, is passionate about increasing the Society’s membership, particularly among younger people.
The third woman president since Cornwall Law Society was established in 1883, Lucy also has plans to attract more female members.
Lucy set the tone for her presidency by giving the recent Cornwall Law Society Annual Dinner an overhaul. As well as changing the venue to one of Cornwall’s most iconic hotels – the Headland in Newquay, she arranged more entertainment and a dance.
Lucy is also focusing her presidency on forging stronger links between Cornwall Law Society and other business groups.
With 300 members, the Cornwall Law Society is a county-wide association of legal professionals who practice within 14 miles of Cornwall. A key part of Lucy’s role as President is to ensure the voice of Cornwall’s lawyers are heard regionally and nationally. As well as attending events across the South West, Lucy will communicate with the national Law Society on key issues facing the profession in Cornwall.
Lucy joined Coodes Solicitors in 2010 and now works in the firm’s Newquay and Falmouth offices. A member of the Family Team, Lucy has particular expertise in children matters and domestic abuse cases. She is Chair of Relate Cornwall and Chair of a local refuge charity.

I am proud to be a lawyer and believe that as a profession we provide an invaluable service to people who are going through a very stressful time in their lives.
