Richard has a broad legal practice, advising a wide range of clients on (often overlapping) matters of estate and succession planning; trusts and related taxation; estate and trust administration; and charity law. Richard acts as a trustee, an executor, an attorney and a Deputy for many clients of the firm.
Repeatedly recommended in Chambers and Partners UK, in its 2017 edition, Richard was described by commentators as “exceptionally intelligent and technically extremely able.”
The Chambers High Net Worth Guide 2018 comments that Richard “leads the firm’s Court of Protection team and is described by a peer as a “good private client lawyer.” He advises clients on a wide range of matters, including tax and estate planning and wills, and has a particular interest in charity law. One interviewee says: “I have always found him to be very good with clients and very knowledgeable. He does very well on the technical side and is also very personable.”
Advising numerous farming clients on succession and estate planning issues, including on farm partnerships and separate businesses, on recurring issues such as Agricultural and Business Property Reliefs from Inheritance Tax, potential 1975 Act and estoppel issues and appropriate Wills, trusts and other arrangements.
Advising on issues of inheritance tax and estate duty in relation to pre-eminent chattels and conditional exemption.
Advising the trustees of a long-running family trust on both its principal trusts and the trusts of various specific devises on related trusts.
Advising various clients owning caravan parks or furnished holiday lettings on succession and IHT planning.
