A former top-flight football player with a passion for the water and a working mother have both joined the property team at Coodes.

Laura Hockett brings with her over 10 years of property law experience but could also be a useful addition to any future Coodes football matches, having had a distinguished career with Colchester United ladies’ football team.

Laura said: “It probably doesn’t sound that impressive, but Colchester ladies were competing at the same level as Arsenal, it was all very serious at the time.

“I picked up a knee injury a few years back and have had operations, it still gives me some grief but I just play through the pain. Perhaps I shouldn’t have said that, I’m not sure my physio would be too happy with me.”

Laura still plays football, these days for St Agnes ladies and also spends as much time as she can in the water, surfing.

“I know that some people will read this and think I’m just chasing the lifestyle, but I was actually attracted to Cornwall for the business and career opportunities.

“It’s a brilliant place to live and work, I’ve been here for six years now and the I can really see the growth potential on both the business and residential market.

“Oh, and yes, I do get to surf obviously.”

Also joining the Coodes’ property department is Lisa Brewer who joins the residential team.

Lisa said: “Coodes is a firm steeped in history that prides itself on being at the heart of the community and that really fits with my own philosophy.

“As a working mother I fully understand, first hand, the problems and concerns that moving house brings.

“Our clients really appreciate our local knowledge, having a hand to hold through the process. You can’t get that from a call centre or an online service.”

Alistair Whyte, who heads up Coodes’ 17-strong residential property team, said: “Lisa and Laura join us as we head into a very busy time of the year.

“With schemes such as Help to Buy, and mortgage providers much more open to lending to first time buyers, the residential property market really is on the move again.”
