Probate and Estate Administration

Our probate and estate administration solicitors are here to help you deal with the legal and financial matters that follow when a loved one dies. This is always a sad time and our experienced probate and estate administration team are renowned for their sensitive and sympathetic approach when advising grieving clients who may be feeling bereft or overwhelmed by their loss.

We will provide exactly the level of support that you require, from advice and guidance to handling the entire process on your behalf, including reviewing the will, tackling inheritance tax, and distributing inheritance to the beneficiaries. We will do all of this as swiftly, efficiently and calmly as possible, ensuring each stage of the process is completed to the highest standards so you can focus on your family and taking care of yourself.

Advising on probate

If you have been appointed as an executor of a relative or friend’s will, or if you are the next of kin to a relative who has died without leaving a will, then you have a very important role to play. It is very common to feel daunted by the responsibility and all the unfamiliar terminology. We are here to help you make sense of it all and carry out your duties effectively, recognizing that you may also be grieving.

Our dedicated team of probate and estate administration experts deal with all probate matters, regardless of complexity – from straightforward estates through to estates involving farming and business assets, and the estates of non-UK residents or involving overseas assets or beneficiaries.

Our probate and estate administration services

  • Providing advice on the documents you need for probate, such as the will, if there is one, the death certificate and inheritance tax forms
  • Obtaining a Grant of Representation – authorisation to administer a deceased person’s estate – either through a Grant of Probate (if there is a will) or Letters of Administration (if there is no will)
  • Handling the legal aspects of transferring and selling the deceased’s property and certain belongings and paying off any debts
  • Helping you track down and contact beneficiaries
  • Handling inheritance tax and filing the tax return with HMRC
  • Distributing inheritance to the beneficiaries

Our probate fees

At Coodes we make every effort to be completely transparent about our fees so that our clients know exactly what to expect. In the case of probate, we offer two frameworks for probate services and fees.
