Coodes secures Legal Aid contracts for Cornwall and North Devon

Posted on March 01, 2019

Coodes Solicitors is now able to offer Legal Aid advice to a greater number of its clients. The South West law firm has secured two Legal Aid contracts to support its client with specific types of clinical negligence claims and family law cases.

Legal Aid is designed to help meet the costs of legal advice, family mediation and representation at court. Law firms can apply to the Legal Aid Agency to be awarded a contract to provide this publicly funded advice.

Coodes Solicitors is one of only two law firms in Cornwall with a contract to offer Legal Aid for clinical negligence claims involving birth injuries. Coodes’ Clinical Negligence team helps people fight for and achieve justice as well as securing compensation to help rebuild their lives after suffering injuries as a result of clinical negligence. The team has decades of experience in helping clients obtain compensation for a range of issues, including misdiagnoses, birth injuries and surgical errors.

Coodes can also now offer Legal Aid to people who meet specific criteria and need support with family law. This now not only includes those who have experienced domestic abuse but, in some circumstances, divorce and cases involving children.

The Legal Aid contract covers clients across Cornwall and the Holsworthy area in North Devon. Coodes offers free appointments to assess whether or not any client is eligible for Legal Aid.

Peter Lamble, Chairman of Coodes, said: “Coodes is committed to supporting people from all walks of life. We know that for some, there are barriers to accessing legal support. That is why it was important for us to secure these contracts with Legal Aid.

“Securing these contracts was a lengthy and involved process, but it was worthwhile as we are now able to offer this service to clients. The Legal Aid Agency only awards these contracts to law firms that it feels can offer the very best advice to clients, so we are delighted to have been given this opportunity.”
